Lothian House Frontage Project

How we reached here.

In March 2006, a survey of the Lothian House building was commissioned from Hardies, Property and Construction Consultants to look into the condition of the fabric of the building. That survey estimated that the building urgently required £200,000 to £250,000 work to be carried out, excluding VAT and fees. None of that work was completed and in the interim the building has continued to deteriorate, to the extent that stone is falling from the building onto to street below, flats are suffering from water penetration through the walls and wall heads, and shops are being flooded.

As a result, the Lothian House Proprietors Association, acting on behalf of the owners of all of the properties under the roof of Lothian House, have secured a grant from Edinburgh World Heritage to support a project to make the building wind and water tight and to maintain the Catergory "B" status of an architecturally important building at the edge of the Unesco World Heritage site.
